The Colour Quest (Book)

During my Final year in the National College of Art & Design, we were tasked to create a fully illustrated book using no words. The brief was based off of the annual Silent Book Contest’s brief. We had to create our own storyline, characters, visual aesthetic… everything a usual silent book would comprise of. My book was based off the behaviours and characteristics of my own 4 dogs.

The silent book’s story is as follows (spoilers): In the town centre, a magical rainbow sacred ball brings colour to the world. One night, a mysterious cat steals the ball, turning everything grey. Flapjack and Loki, the heroes, awaken to the dull world and set out on a quest after finding a lost cat bell. Guided by wise senior dogs, they follow the cat's scent through the 'Washed Woodland' and 'Ferocious Fence,' eventually reaching the 'Cat Castle.' Loki retrieves the ball, and they return home to restore color. To prevent future thefts, they create a foil fountain around the ball. The town celebrates, and as the sun sets, the dogs happily drift to sleep in their now vibrant town.
