In 2023, Alternus Energy and NCAD continued their Sustainability Arts Initiative collaboration. They tasked us with repurposing recycled and damaged solar panels in a competitive setting. The goal was to breathe new life into these panels, aligning with the United Nations Sustainability Goals, particularly Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. The artwork I created focuses on violence against women.

Titled ”Unpredictable People”, my piece features two overlapping illustrations depicting contrasting scenarios at different times of the day. It aims to highlight the sudden shift in intentions some people could have. Depending on the coloured light projected onto the artwork, one illustration emerges while the other fades. Red light displays the blue illustration and mutes the red illustration… and vice versa. Within the illustrations I have imbedded both statistics and quotes from interviews based on violence against women.

Out of 40 designers, I was honored to be chosen as one of the three winners!

This recognition means a lot to me as the topic resonates universally, touching on the feeling of unease no matter where you are.
